What makes American Apparel blanks different?

American Apparel built its name on fine jersey, a tightly knitted cotton that feels noticeably smoother than a standard open end tee. People tend to notice it when they put it on rather than when they look at it, which is a good quality in merch somebody has to actually want to wear.

When is fine jersey the right choice?

Because the knit is tight and even, the surface holds fine detail unusually well. Thin type, small marks and line illustrations that would soften on a coarser fabric stay legible. If your logo has delicate elements, this is a sensible blank to put it on.

What is the trade off with a finer knit?

A finer knit is lighter than a heavyweight tee, so it will not have the same substantial hang. That is a deliberate choice rather than a shortcoming. Pick it when softness and print detail matter more than heft, and pick a heavier blank when the shirt needs to feel like a retail product on a hanger.

    Is the range unisex?

Much of it is, alongside cuts made specifically for women and a youth range. If you are ordering across a whole team, we can advise on which styles pair up cleanly.

    Does it suit embroidery?

Lighter knits need a backing to stop the stitching pulling the fabric. It is standard practice and we allow for it. For a dense logo, a heavier garment is often the better host.

    How does it wash?

Cool wash, no hot dryer. That advice holds for any printed cotton, and it matters slightly more on a fine knit.
